The Sacrament of Confirmation
The National Directory for Catechesis directs that faith must be known, celebrated, lived, and expressed in prayer. Our Faith Formation Program taken as a whole makes each of these an objective. Children and youth are offered opportunities for structured catechesis, faith sharing, celebration of the liturgy, preparation and reception of the Sacraments, and participation in liturgical celebrations, all of which aid them in integrating knowledge of their faith with living their faith. In doing so, their faith is deepened and strengthened.
Most Confirmation candidates have completed seven or eight years of a Faith Formation/Religious Education program. They have basic knowledge of their faith, celebrate their faith through Mass and prayer, and live their faith through service in their communities. By entering the Confirmation preparation program candidates are making a commitment to God to practice their faith. Confirmation is celebrated as the third Sacrament of Initiation; Baptism and Holy Eucharist having already been celebrated by the candidates.
Admission and Registration
St. Patrick Church welcomes all young people into the Confirmation Preparation Faith Formation Program. No one will be denied participation on the basis of race, sex, or national origin. All participant and family information is held in strictest confidence at all times.
Parents are the primary catechists of their children and as such it is their primary responsibility to educate their children in the Catholic faith. The objective of our Confirmation preparation program is to supplement this task by imparting more knowledge and supporting the formation of Catholic attitudes so that the child may participate more fully in the life of the Catholic Church.
Candidates must be registered each year. The registration period will be determined in March. All re-registration forms must be received in the Faith Formation Office during the registration period.
All participants registering for the Confirmation preparation program must have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Holy Communion and completed a grade 8 Faith Formation program. All participants new to our Faith Formation program must present their Baptismal and Holy Eucharist certificates as well as documentation of their grade 8 completion at the time of registration.
